Original UK Indie Dance Music
Quartermass have created a fresh, original sound. They combine elements of indie and electronic dance music (EDM), appealing to festival crowds and global dance floors alike. The duo’s debut EP ‘Kaput!’ features original vocals, synths and guitars with big electronic beats and bass. Influences for Quartermass include Joy Division, Chemical Brothers, Unkle and Gorillaz.
Steve Noxx (29) and Michael-Lee Collard (30) formed Quartermass, recording their debut four track EP – ‘Kaput!’ in their Cardiff (Wales / UK) studio. Steve was a resident DJ in Ibiza and has produced many underground dance tracks, while Collard is a classically trained musician playing in bands and performing as a solo musician.
Steve has released tracks on High Contrast Recordings (NL), Lange Recordings (UK), Traffic (UK) and on his own label Phase Seven Records. He started his career off under the name NuSense, and continues to produce house, electro & techno as Steve Noxx. His music has been supported by some of the biggest DJs in the world, including Fatboy Slim, Tiesto, Marco V, Sander Van Doorn and Eddie Halliwell to name but a few.
Collard had success as a solo experimental producer with his Magnum Quilter alias. In 2009 his album ‘Cabinet Statements’ was released by White Label Music. After the release Collard toured the UK with his live show, something he is keen to repeat with Quartermass. A video of his live performance won the Avant Garde category at a film festival.
Steve’s other half, Liz Noxx, features on ‘Push Delete’ and ‘Losing My Soul’. After much persuasion and the occasional bribe she reluctantly added her angelic voice to the Quartermass sound.
Quartermass, named after a misspelt bootleg of a post-apocalyptic 1950’s BBC sci-fi programme, Quatermass. To avoid any confusion with Quatermass, Noxx & Collard added an ‘r’. They met whilst playing 5-aside football and instantly clicked in the studio.
